Chicago Cubs minor leaguer arrested for possession of drugs: Reports

Minor Leaguer Jesus Camargo Corrales, a pitching prospect for the Chicago Cubs who signed with the team in 2014, was found in possession of 21 pounds of methamphetamine and other restricted substances on Wednesday in Colorado, according to media reports.  

Camargo was pulled over by the police on Saint Patrick’s Day after he was spotted driving in an unusual manner and switching between lanes. In addition to the 25-year-old, two other passengers were present in the vehicle, which was being driven to Denver from Arizona, according to the arrest affidavit.

Law enforcement officials questioned the Camargo about the presence of any restricted substances in the vehicle, to which he said that he was obligated to follow a strict no-drug policy due to his involvement in Major League Baseball. 

However, an equipment bag was recovered from the vehicle during a search which contained two green packets, a bag with a white coloured substance, $1000 cash and some sports equipment, according to 9News.

Camargo, who has been detained by the authorities under a $75,000 bond, was charged with a total of four felonies including possession and distribution of methamphetamine and oxycodone. 

The remaining two passengers in the vehicle were later released from police custody after it was asserted that the two were unaware of the presence of drugs in the car.
