Clearfield Police arrested a suspect after a shooting at the city cemetery on Wednesday night. They responded to 911 calls of shots fired around 9:30 PM near 1200 South State Street, authorities stated.

Witnesses heard yelling and one person possibly told the other “get in the truck if you want to live”, Assistant Chief Devin Rogers told CBS-affiliated KUTV.

The victim was dropped off at the nearby Layton hospital in critical condition and is currently being treated. Police had put out an alert to nearby officers describing the truck believed to be driven by the suspect.

After 10 PM, Layton police carried out a high-risk stop on the truck at Antelope Drive near I-15, and detained the driver. Currently, cops are questioning him about the shooting and more details are expected to come out of the investigation. Thus far, authorities haven’t released any information about the victim.

Jeremy Harris of KUTV reported that the cops had the truck stopped near Davis Medical Center, while Clearfield police units were blocking off the city cemetery, which is near 1020 State Street.

Last month, Clearfield saw a woman arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault after an altercation led to a gun going off. As per the woman, she had the gun in her hand and tried to drive the visitor out, threatening suicide. However, they grabbed for the gun and the woman fired, with the bullet going through the window of the vehicle.

The city in Davis County, Utah, started growing quickly in the 1940s. It was popular among hunters and Native Americans before it became a settlement. The state has relatively weak gun laws and a high case of gun suicides among teens and children.
