Comedian Bill Burr, who was part of The Grammy Awards on March 14, is being criticised for mispronouncing a Mexican singer’s name before joking that feminists will cancel him for the gaffe. He was presenting Best Regional Mexican Music at the award show at the LA Convention Center.

He said, “And the Grammy goes to Natalia Lafourcade. Sorry, I will accept on behalf of her. If I butchered her name, I’m sorry. Natalia you won. That’s it. How many feminists are going nuts like why is this cis-white male doing all this Latino stuff?” He also joked about a piano performance, which triggered some reactions from the internet warriors.

Twitter was quick to react and many criticised the stand-up comedian for his jokes at the ceremony.

One wrote: ‘The @RecordingAcad needs to own up to this failure of selecting Bill Burr as a presenter.”

‘What a terrible choice. He clearly does not recognise how important this is for artists. If you can’t get a presenter who gives a f*** how do you expect anyone to take you seriously.’

This is not the first time that Burr has faced the backlash after he made jokes about woke culture in a Saturday Night Live monologue in September.
