COVID-19 death toll in the US can be over 6,00,000: President Biden gives a reality check

The newly sworn-in President of the United States, Joe Biden said on Friday that the death toll in the US due to COVID-19 can surpass the 6,00,000 mark.
President Biden said in a press conference, “The virus is surging. We’re 400,000 dead, expected to reach well over 6,00,000. Families are going hungry. People are at risk of being evicted. Job losses are mounting again. We need to act.”
The President later signed an executive order which addressed the food crisis which has impacted millions of Americans since the start of the pandemic.

Biden announced the terrifying estimate a day after declaring the new COVID-19 strategy of the US where the President made bittersweet remarks which gave the people of US a reality check. He said, “Things are going to get worse before they get better. But I can assure you, help is on the way”.
The US President called this fight against the deadly virus “a wartime undertaking” and later added, “And when I say wartime, people kind of look at me like ‘wartime?’ Well, as I said last night, 4,00,000 Americans have died. That’s more than have died in all of World War II, 4,00,000. This is a wartime undertaking.”

The 78-year-old President later urged the people of America to play their individual part in mitigating the crisis and reaffirmed that over 50,000 American lives can be saved if the people fulfilled their “patriotic duty” of wearing a mask.
Biden spoke as the United States topped 4,10,000 coronavirus deaths, with 24.6 million confirmed infections since the outbreak started.
