The border-wall construction between the US and Mexico will be paused,
as the Department of Defence continues to go through newly elected President
Joe Biden’s executive order which orders the work to stop, Raini W Brunson,
Spokesperson for the US Army Corps of Engineers, reportedly informed.

The Corps of Engineers work to implement border wall contracts.

“(U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) will take the appropriate actions in
accordance with the E.O. and will coordinate our actions with the Department of
Defence and our partners at the Department of Homeland Security/U.S. Customs
and Border Protection,” Brunson was quoted by CNN as saying, who further added
that the Corps was following the Executive Order (EO) for the necessary directions
to implement the stoppage.

With the border wall being one of former president Donald Trump’s main
election promises, President Biden decidedly went for it.

“It shall be the
policy of my Administration that no more American taxpayer dollars be diverted
to construct a border wall,” a proclamation signed by the President on
Wednesday evening states.

Towards the end of his term, former president Donald Trump paid a
visit to the wall, hailing it as an accomplishment for his administration.

Under Trump, 455 miles of older border wall, fencing in some cases,
have been replaced by enhanced, newer walls.

An add-on to his initial promise to build the wall, Trump had said
afterwards that Mexico would pay for the expenses used to erect the structure, the
idea of which the US’ southern neighbour vociferously rejected.
