US President Donald Trump confirmed that he will announce his pick for the Supreme Court seat left vacant after the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Saturday. “I will be announcing my Supreme Court Nominee on Saturday, at the White House! Exact time TBA,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, the President had said that he wants to wait until after funeral services are over “in all due respect” to Ginsburg. He also insisted that the Senate should vote before the upcoming November election.

“We will have probably services on Thursday or Friday, as I understand it. … We should wait until the services are over, for Justice Ginsburg,” he had said.

Trump also rubbished the reports about Ginsburg’s dying wish. In a statement dictated to her granddaughter, Ginsburg had said, “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”

Trump said that the statement was “written out” by Democratic leaders, adding “I don’t know she said that.”

Meanwhile, Democratic opponents, led by presidential candidate Joe Biden, have demanded that the Republicans hold off on replacing Ginsburg until after the November 3 election.

However, Trump and the leaders of the Republican-held Senate have said they will go ahead and fill the seat.

This will be the third nomination by the President for the top court since he won the election in 2016. It also gives him the chance to cement a conservative-leaning majority on the panel for likely many years to come
