Amy Coney Barrett, President Donald Trump’s nominee for the US Supreme Court on Sunday that she would rule based on law and would not let her personal views come in the way. Her comments were made ahead of her Senate confirmation hearings to be conducted this week.

The 48-year old, who has been touted as a replacement to Ruth Bader Ginsburg by Trump, is a conservative appeals court judge. Barrett stated that in her current job she has,“ done my utmost to reach the result required by the law, whatever my own preferences might be.”

Barrett who personally opposes abortion rights and is a devout Catholic will be probed by the Senate Democrats on the issue.

If Barrett is confirmed to the position by the Republican-controlled Senate, the court would have a 6-3 conservation majority, stated a Reuters report.

The report by Reuters further states that Conservative activists hope that the court will over the 1973 ruling, Roe vs Wade, that legalized abortion nationwide.

Trump’s nominee Barett will replace liberal icon Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died last month.

Barett stated that serving for the Supreme Court would be “an honour of a lifetime” for her.

She further explained how she would approach a case and stated, “When I write an opinion resolving a case, I read every word from the perspective of the losing party. I ask myself how would I view the decision if one of my children was the party I was ruling against.”

Barrett was a professor at the Notre Dame Law School Indiana and will become the fifth woman to serve on the court.

Barrett, 48, is a mother of seven children was previously appointed by Trump to the Chicago-based 7th US Circuit Court of Appeals.
