SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk, also known widely for his antics on the internet and for his love of cryptocurrency, has publicly offered to endorse McDonald’s if the fast food giants agree to take payment in cryptocurrency.

Musk has been promoting a cryptocurrency that emerged as a meme, Dogecoin, in recent months and took to Twitter to say that he would gladly eat a McDonald’s meal on television if the company accepts payment in Dogecoin.

McDonald’s replied to the billionaire by saying they would, on the condition that Tesla accept grimacecoin, a made-up currency based on a fictional character from McDonald’s commercials.

Meanwhile, Burger King’s official account replied to Musk’s tweet, saying, “only a king knows what da coin do,” perhaps signalling its openness to the billionaire’s suggestion.

Dogecoin’s official Twitter account, perhaps unsurprisingly, replied with a meme: a photo of a McDonald’s meal with the caption, “much WOW.”

Musk had recently announced that customers would be able to purchase Tesla merchandise using Dogecoin, such as the Cyberwhistle, Giga Texas Belt Buckle, and Cyberquad for Kids.

The 50-year-old made the announcement over Twitter in characteristic fashion on January 14, tweeting, “Tesla merch buyable with Dogecoin.”

While many welcomed the move, others warned that Musk may have tweeted to raise the value of Dogecoin before selling off his holdings.

The billionaire’s tweets are known to have affected the value of cryptocurrency earlier, and his tweets about McDonald’s and Dogecoin helped put a temporary stop to the downward spiral of the cryptocurrency, and even helped raise its valuation a little, according to CoinMarketCap.

Elon Musk is currently the richest man in the world, with a real-time Forbes valuation of $226.7 billion.
