Federal appeals court in Pennsylvania junk Trump campaign lawsuits, four states follow suit
- A US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit ruled against Trump campaign on Friday
- The ruling caused several other courts in four states to follow suit
- 74-year-old Trump is yet to concede the election to President-Elect Joe Biden
A federal appeals court’s decision to dump a federal lawsuit seeking to overturn November 3 election results in Pennsylvania, where President Donald Trump lost to Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden, has caused several other courts in four states to follow suit.
President Trump has been adamant in rejecting the results of the November 3 elections and has filed countless litigations in key swing states he lost on election night. The 74-year-old is yet to concede the election to President-elect Joe Biden.
A US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit on Friday had ruled that Pennsylvania voters and Congressional candidates would not be allowed to use certain constitutional arguments to back claims that some voters were disadvantaged by changes made in election rules due to the coronavirus pandemic and US Postal System delays, as per USAToday.
On Monday, all Trump supporters, who used arguments on similar lines in the lawsuits filed by the Trump campaign in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Wisconsin, had their claims voluntarily dismissed.
The dismissals come ahead of the day when the Trump campaign federal lawsuit is up for discussion in Pennsylvania.

The Trump campaign on Sunday changed course on their legal arguments to avoid similar outcomes for the federal lawsuit in Pennsylvania. While the revised complaint still argues that 689,472 ballots were counted in the absence of Trump election watchers after being improperly processed, it, however, doesn’t seek a legal relief on the matter, as per USAToday report.
Richard Hansen, an election law expert from the University of California, on Monday stated in his Election Law Blog, “Trump’s legal path to overturn the election results appears 100 percent dead.”
The Trump campaign’s case “does not involve enough ballots to call Pennsylvania’s election results into question,” reported USAToday quoting Hansen.
President-elect Joe Biden’s lead in Pennsylvania as on Tuesday stood at 73,322, as per Guardian’s election tally.

The Trump’s campaign’s lawsuit in the Penn state seeks to delay the final results and also asks the court to bar certification of results that include absentee and mail ballots. Legal experts, however, have opined that the cases filed by Trump have no chance of success.
