Golden Globe Awards: Chadwick Boseman wins in the Best Actor (Male) in Motion Picture, Drama category

Chadwick Boseman won the Golden Globe Award 2021 in the Best Actor (Male) in Motion Picture, Drama category posthumously. He played the role of a trumpeter in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Produced by Denzel Washington and Todd Black and Dany Black, the film stars both Boseman and Viola Davis in lead roles.

Boseman died in 2020 due to colon cancer.

The 78th Golden Globe Awards featured nominations
in a wide array of categories. The nominations included Riz Ahmed for The Sound
of Metal, Chadwick Boseman for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Anthony Hopkins for
The Father, Gary Oldman for Mank, and Tahar Rahim for The Mauritanian.

There were two overlaps with the Best Motion Picture (Drama)
nominees in the list, as both The Father and Mank featured in it.

The category has seen an a rather emotional response ahead
of the awards as ‘Black Panther’ Chadwick Boseman, nominated for Ma Rainey
Black Bottom, passed away in August, 2020.

In case of Boseman winning, he would be the first black
actor to posthumously receive the award.

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and The Father, in the months ahead
of the award, were pitted against each other, with Riz Ahmed in Sound of Metal too
following as a close contender.
