Governor Cuomo requests New York Attorney General to pick lawyer for sexual harassment case review

Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office has asked New York state’s attorney general and an appeals court judge to select a lawyer to conduct an independent review of the sexual harassment allegations against him. 

This comes after the office backed away from its original plan to select an investigator for reviewing the case.

Cuomo has been accused of sexual misconduct by two of his former aides, Charlotte Bennett and Lindsey Boylan. While he has denied the allegations, his administration says they want the probe to be done “in a manner beyond reproach.”

On Saturday, his administration said that it had selected Barbara Jones, a former federal judge to lead the investigation. But have now asked the Attorney General of New York State and the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals to jointly select an independent lawyer.

They want to avoid “even the perception of a lack of independence or inference of politics.” 

Beth Garvey, special counsel to Cuomo said, “All members of the Governor’s office will cooperate fully. We will have no further comment until the report is issued.”
