While the state of Colorado may only assert a minute tug on the promise land figure of 270 needed to win a presidential election, with its nine electorates, the voters in the state are known to flip-flop between the Republican and Democratic party in successive elections.

Though the state handed its nine electoral college seats to Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016, the party last voted Republican in 2004 electing George W Bush to represent them. The state has bucked on the Democrat train since 2008 and has remained blue, since then.

However, the Rocky Mountains encompassing state has elected three Republicans to represent itself in the House of Representatives, and one in the Senate.

In his last run at Colorado, former vice president Joe Biden along with president Barack Obama had clinched all nine electorates in 2012. The mid-western state had also elected the Obama-Biden duo in 2008.

The Democratic National Committee had initially suggested that the Democratic National Convention be held in Denver, however it had to be changed after conflicts with the city administration.

With all major aggregate polls indicating a Biden blue wave in the state, FiveThirtyEight.com has given Biden a 13 points lead, and is confident that the former presidential candidate will triumph come November 3.

However Team Trump despite losing Colorado by nearly five percentage points has refused to concede in the state.

According to a report by news outlet Denverpost, both presidential candidates have marshalled their troops in the state and have been aggressively building up operations through paid staffers and volunteers.

While the Biden campaign has refrained from in-person gatherings and door-knocking operations, Team Trump has doubled down on in-person canvassing since mid-June, as per Denverpost report. Not to be outdone by the Trump campaign, Biden’s group has mobilised support through phone-calling and texting, as per Denverpost report.

The Trump campaign however has failed to make in-road into Colorado as the state is young and progressive.

The two presidential candidates however last visited the state in February 2020, with Trump heading a mega rally in Colorado Springs and Biden attending a fundraiser in Denver.

Biden however conducted a virtual fundraiser in the state, last month.

While the presidential election race is of supreme importance, the senate race between Democratic challenger John Hickenloop and incumbent Republican senator Cory Gardner has attracted national attention. This senate race might help decide whether Republicans manage to hold on to their slim lead in the Senate or Democrats finally flip the Senate blue.
