India and US reach agreement to sort out issues in bilateral trade relations

India and United States have agreed to work in a constructive
manner to come up with solutions in order to resolve key trade differences. The
two nations have further looked at ways to expand their economic relationship,
PTI reported the Joe Biden administration as saying.

In a phone call with India’s Commerce and Industry Minister
Piyush Goyal, United States Trade Representative Catherine Tai said, as per a transcription
of the call, that the two countries are set to work based on ‘shared objectives’
and highlighted further the trade and investment relation between the two
nations.

“They committed to strengthening cooperation on shared
objectives and to revitalise engagement through the US-India Trade Policy
Forum. They also agreed to work constructively to resolve key outstanding
bilateral trade issues and to take a comprehensive look at ways to expand the
trade relationship”, AFP quoted Tai as saying on Thursday regarding the telephonic
conversation.

Operations in several sectors such as digital trade,
intellectual property, labour and climate issues were discussed between the two
sides.

Tai had been confirmed by the US Senate a few days back.

The two will be holding their next trade policy meeting in
2021, Tai was reported as saying after the event.
