Talking about the human rights violation in China, after his call with President Xi Jinping, Joe Biden on Tuesday (US time) said that Beijing will have to pay a price for it. While appearing on a townhall show televised on CNN, Biden was pressed to speak about his conversation with the Chinese Premier.

Biden has maintained a pro-democratic approach ever since he was contesting for the presidential elections. He has also been vocal about the human rights issue all over the world.

Biden was being asked about his phone call with Xi Jinping when he said that there would be repercussions on China for its abuse of human rights and that Jinping knows.

Biden also added that he wanted to make sure that they were rightfully speaking up for human rights at the UN and other agencies.

However, he added that he is not going to speak out against the human rights violation that China is carrying out. Its authoritarian approach in dealing with protests in Hong Kong and Taiwan and its treatment of Uyghur Muslims in the Western Hills of China has been an issue on various human rights protection forums.

The 78-year-old in the townhall reiterated that since China is trying to become a world leader, it will understand that it cannot happen without the support of other nations. If it continues to violate human rights and demonstrate its brute force over small constituencies, it will not be able to become a world leader.

Biden ended his call by saying that the China policy and the entire issue around it are way too complicated to be put together in ten minutes on television and that he shouldn’t do that.
