Joe Biden revokes Donald Trump’s immigration proclamation for health care costs

US President Joe Biden revoked a 2019 order issued by former president Donald Trump that prevented immigrants from obtaining US visas unless they showed proof of money to obtain health insurance or pay for their healthcare. 

Biden in a statement said, “The previous proclamation does not advance the interests of the United States.” He added, “My administration is committed to expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare.”

President Biden added, “We can achieve that objective, however, without barring the entry of non-citizens who seek to immigrate lawfully to this country but who lack significant financial means or have not purchased health insurance coverage from a restrictive list of qualifying plans.”

The US President stated that any policy, regulations and orders pursuant to the previous proclamation shall be revised and set according to the latest policies.

Biden, after assuming charge. also upheld Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and repealed travel ban targeting for Muslim-majority nations.
