US President Joe Biden is expected to let the pandemic-related ban on visas expire, Bloomberg reported quoting sources. The ban was implemented by Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump and is set to expire on Wednesday.

The ban imposed in June last year affected H-1B visas that are used by tech companies to hire foreign workers. If Biden doesn’t extend the moratorium, it’ll be a relief for the companies.

In February, Biden revoked the Trump-era ban on the issuance of new green cards. The former president had argued that the ban was necessary to protect the US economy as it emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown induced by it.

“To the contrary, it harms the United States, including by preventing certain family members of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents from joining their families here,” Biden said while revoking the ban.

He added that the ban harmed US companies that hire talent from around the world.

However, at that time, he didn’t revoke the ban on visas.
