Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen was pressured by former US President Donald Trump to falsely announce that the election was corrupt and illegal. This came as he wanted to help Republican members of Congress attempt at overturning the election result, according to notes of a December 2020 call Trump held with Rosen and acting deputy attorney general Richard Donoghue.

“Just say that the election was corrupt + leave the rest to me and the R. Congressmen,” Trump said on the call, according to Donoghue’s notes.

The aforementioned notes were given to the House Oversight Committee from the call Trump held with Jeffrey Rosen and Donoghue. This marks his latest attempt at overturning the elections he lost against Joe Biden. Furthermore, it has become the subject of the investigation of the January 6 attack on the Capitol carried out by pro-Trump supporters.

“These handwritten notes show that President Trump directly instructed our nation’s top law enforcement agency to take steps to overturn a free and fair election in the final days of his presidency,” House Oversight Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney said in a statement.

Trump said that “people are angry” and blaming the Justice Department for inaction. He further added, “We have an obligation to tell people that this was an illegal, corrupt election.”

“We are doing our job. Much of the info you’re getting is false,” replied Rosen and Donoghue to him. Donoghue even went as far as to tell Donald Trump that the Justice Department doesn’t work that way and it won’t simply snap its fingers and change the outcome of the election.

The former president threatened that he would replace Rosen with the then-Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Clark, saying, “People tell me Jeff Clark is great, I should put him in.”
