Lakewood, Washington shooting: Police respond to situation at 8900 block of Gravelly Lake Drive, child injured

The Lakewood Police Department informed via a Tweet on Friday evening at 6:36 p.m. about a shooting that had taken place in the 8900 block of Gravelly Lake Drive. According to their post, police were present at the scene, and they advised people to avoid the area for safety reasons.
Additionally, a child was taken from the location with undisclosed injuries. It’s essential to prioritize the well-being of those affected by this incident, and it’s advisable to follow the instructions of the local authorities.
“A short while ago police responded to a shooting in the 8900 block of Gravelly Lake Drive. This is still an active scene and roads are closed. Please avoid the area,” Lakewood Police Department wrote in the Tweet posted at 9:36 pm EST Friday.
Police have not disclosed any information about the suspect involved in the incident. However, the area has now been reopened, and authorities have confirmed that there are no further threats to the safety of citizens. The incident is currently under investigation by detectives.
“Gravelly Lake Dr has been reopened. There is no threat to the citizens. One minor injury was sustained during the shooting. Detectives are working on the incident,” another Tweet by the Police Department at around 11:30 pm Friday.
As reported by Forbes, the United States experienced four separate shootings across different states on Sunday. This brings the total number of mass shootings to 102 in 2022, resulting in almost 400 injured and 149 fatalities. This marks the earliest point in at least a decade that the number of mass shootings has reached triple digits.
The most devastating incidents occurred in January, where one incident claimed 12 lives, and another saw a suspected shooter kill seven people at two locations. By comparison, at this time last year, there were 69 mass shootings that resulted in 89 fatalities, while in 2021, there were 75 mass shootings that claimed 78 lives.
