Lara, the daughter-in-law of US President Donald Trump, is considering a Senate run in her home state of North Carolina in 2022, a report by the New York Times stated on Thursday.

Citing three unnamed “allies”, the New York Times said Lara Trump, wife of US President’s second-eldest son Eric, “has been telling associates she is considering a run for Senate in 2022”.

The report comes as Trump continues seeking to reverse his loss to Democrat Joe Biden in the United States presidential election. Time and again, the outgoing President has made baseless election fraud claims and personal outreach to state election authorities. 

Lara, 38, is a former personal trainer and TV producer, She married Eric in 2014, becoming the face of the Trump’s campaign online visual content, The Guardian reports. 

North Carolina Republican Senator Richard Burr has said he will not be seeking reelection in 2022, as per AFP. According to a report by Politico, Donald Trump’s current chief of staff Mark Meadows, former governor Pat McCrory, and outgoing Lt Governor Dan Forest are the other potential Republican candidates for the Senator from the state.

North Carolina, which is increasingly being seen as a possible swing state, is historically Republican that voted for Trump in 2020 US elections, but by a smaller margin than in 2016.
