‘Loyal, honest, prepared’: Kamala Harris aims to emulate Joe Biden in her V-P stint

US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on Saturday night told Americans that she would strive to be a vice president like the President-elect Joe Biden was to former President Barack Obama.

 Posting a photo of herself with Biden on Instagram, Harris wrote, “To the American people—no matter who you voted for—I will strive to be a Vice President like @JoeBiden was to President @BarackObama: loyal, honest, and prepared, waking up every day thinking of you and your families.”

 The 56-year-old Democrat delivered a historic speech after she won the closely-fought election. 

Harris also wore an all-white suit on the victory night to pay homage to suffragettes of the 20th century who worked to get women the right to vote in the United States. 

Born to immigrant parents, Harris has stood firm in support for movements such as Black Lives Matter, which, in recent months has taken the country by storm.

She will be the first-ever Indian-origin vice president, first-ever black and first-ever African-American vice president of the US. 

Earlier, Indian-origin politicians have been elected as heads of the state in various parts of the world in the last several decades, from Mauritius to Fiji but nobody was elected to this post in any office.
