Meghan Markle calls for change ahead of US elections

Duchess of Sussex and former actress on Thursday Meghan Markle in an event with former first lady Michelle Obama’s voter registration organisation spoke on the relevance of voting.

“I think we are obviously faced with a lot of problems in our world right now both in the physical world and in the digital world, but we can and must do everything we can to make sure all women have their voices heard,” she said at a virtual “When All Women Vote Couch Party”. 

The event was also attended by When We All Vote board chairperson Valerie Jarrett, who was a senior advisor at White House during former President Barack Obama’s tenure. It was co-hosted by Glamour Magazine and The United State of Women.

“At this juncture, if we aren’t part of the solution, we are part of the problem. If you aren’t going out there and voting, then you’re complicit. If you’re complacent, you’re complicit,” Markle added.

With 74 days left for the US Elections to begin, the event focussed on what women voters can do to bring a change.

Meghan, having stepped back from her role as a member of the Royal Family in England, has been more vocal lately about relevant issues. Her presence was more noteworthy because of the Royal Family’s protocol of not being involved in any kind of politics.

However, since her resignation, the Duchess has spoken about a wide range of topics, including voting and Black Lives Matter. Having retained her US citizenship, Marle had earlier told Marie Claire magazine that she plans to vote in November.
