Minneapolis observes a moment of silence to mark George Floyd’s death anniversary

The city of Minneapolis took a moment of silence on Tuesday to honour the memory of George Floyd, an African American man, who was killed in the city exactly a year ago on May 25th.
The gesture to honour Floyd’s memory was joined in by Mayor Jacob Frey, residents of the city, activists and Floyd’s sister Bridgett at 1 pm on Tuesday, reported Associated Press.

The moment of silence, which lasted for 9 minutes and 29 seconds, was scheduled by Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota and a member of the Democratic Party.
Bridgett Floyd said to the crowd present in the area, “It’s been a troubling year, a long year. But we made it. They say with God all things are possible and I’m a true believer in that … The love is very outpouring today. The love is here. George is here”, reported Associated Press.

The governor wrote on Twitter, “Minnesotans, join me today for a moment of silence to honor George Floyd on the anniversary of his death, a day that ignited a global movement for change.”
Similar gestures were carried out in the state of New York, while a rally was organised in Los Angeles to pay respect to Floyd on his death anniversary.
European countries like Germany, Greece and Spain also pitched in with rallies.
