The National Weather Service forecast a major snowstorm bearing down on Minnesota from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday. The huge swath of Minnesota, together with the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul are set to get hit by two rounds of snow this week.
Latest Advisory
The 3-Day Winter storm will drive widespread accumulating snow, accompanied by blowing and drifting snow, mainly from Wednesday to Thursday.

The first round of the storm arrives on Tuesday ending Wednesday morning. The second one arrives Wednesday afternoon and lasts much of Thursday. Strong travel impacts are likely to happen from Tuesday evening to Friday afternoon, due to long hours of snow and blowing snow.
The advisory read, “High confidence of 12” inches or more across the twin cities metro and portions of Western Minnesota, and West Central Wisconsin by the end of the event Thursday night.”

“Medium/High confidence of 12” inches or more along I-90 corridor and portions of central Minnesota.”
School closures
Minnesota’s school districts are closing watching the situation as a massive snow system comes their way. Cancellations, late starts, early finishes, and e-learning days look for certainty as the storm develops.

“It’s going to be an interesting couple of days out there,” said Rob Corniea, director of operations at Minnesota Exteriors, which put out a handy list of things to do prior to a winter storm. Corniea, who has 20 years of experience at the company, can’t oppose what’s to come in the next few days.
“Roofs are especially vulnerable to a heavy load of snow. You can be buckled up if they already have an ice dam, that water is going to start melting, and stuck behind the ice and start finding its way into the house,” he said while suggesting getting the ice dam removed.
