House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday unveiled plans to probe US President Donald Trump’s capacity to govern, 10 days after he contracted COVID-19. Pelosi took a new step, proposing a commission to probe Trump’s fitness for the job and whether he needs removal under the 25th Amendment of the Constitution.

This comes after Trump’s doctor on Thursday said that the US President can resume public engagements and the President’s campaign said that he wants to replace the proposed virtual debates with two-face-to-face encounters with his Democratic opponent Joe Biden.

The US President on Thursday quipped that he beat COVID-19 because he is a “perfect physical specimen” and “extremely young.” Reacting to this, Pelosi warned that Trump is suffering from a “disassociation from reality (that) would be funny if it weren’t so deadly.”

Trump was talking at Fox Business television where he called Kamala Harris, Democratic Party’s vice presidential nominee, a “monster,” branded illegal immigrants “rapists,” and urged indictments of Biden and former president Barack Obama.

As Pelosi announced her upcoming probe, Trump reacted on Twitter, saying, “Crazy Nancy is the one who should be under observation.” He added, “They don’t call her Crazy for nothing!”

White House physician Sean Conley on Thursday said, “Saturday will be day 10 since Thursday’s diagnosis.”

“Based on the trajectory of advanced diagnostics the team has been conducting, I fully anticipate the President’s safe return to public engagements at that time,” AFP quoted the doctor’s statement.

Trump announced last Friday that he had tested positive for COVID-19. He was taken to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center later that day and spent three days there.
