‘Nero fiddled while Rome burned. Trump golfs’: Bernie Sanders at Democratic convention

- Joe Biden will end the hate division and hate Trump has created, Sanders said
Speaking virtually at the Democratic National Convention, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders said President Donald Trump is ‘incapable of addressing this crisis and leading the nation down the path of authoritarianism.’ He further said that the November 3 US Presidential election is ‘most important in the modern history of this country.’
Sanders urged his supporters to vote for Joe Biden, while speaking on the first day of the Democratic convention and said the US is facing an unprecedented crisis, along with systemic racism and the threat of climate change.

He said the United States needs an unprecedented response to the unprecedented crisis the country is facing. He said, “We need a movement from people… who are prepared to stand up and fight for democracy.”
Talking about his campaign and thanking his supporters, Sanders said, “Together we have moved this country in a new direction, and if Donald Trump is re-elected all of the progress will be in jeopardy”.
Sanders said, “The future of our democracy is at stake. The future of our economy is at stake. The future of our planet is at stake.” He further added, “We must come together, defeat Donald Trump and elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as our next president and vice president.”

“Nero fiddled while Rome burnt. Trump golfs,” Sanders said, adding that the “US President’s actions fanned this pandemic resulting in over 170,000 deaths and a nation still unprepared to protect its people.”
Towards the end of his speech, Sanders said, “Joe Biden will end the hate division, and hate Trump has created.”
