New York Gov Andrew Cuomo signs bill legalising recreational marijuana use for adults

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill on Wednesday legalising the use of recreational by adults over 21-years of age. The New York Senate passed the bill, with 40 votes in favor and 23 against. After the Senate’s approval, the Assembly passed it with the vote count of 100 in favor and 49 against, during a late-night session Tuesday.

The new law also has a provision to expunge all the marijuana convictions for actions that would be legal under the new law in the state, CNN reported.

The law creates provisions of licenses for the producers and distributors of marijuana in the state.

It also allows adults over 21 to buy cannabis from state authorised sellers, and possess up to 3 ounces of cannabis and 24 grams of cannabis concentrate. The law also states that 18 months after the beginning of the sales, adults will be allowed to grow up to six mature plants and six immature plants at home per household.
