North Korea on Monday accused the United Nations Security Council of
double standards. The country last week had launched two short ranged ballistic
missiles, an act they are banned from committing under UNSC regulations. This,
notably, marked the first major provocation under the Joe Biden
administrations, AFP reported.

The Biden administration is currently in the final stages of a review
on its policy towards the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Expectedly, the US and North Korea had different reactions after the
launch, with President Joe Biden warning the Asian power that “there will
be responses if they choose to escalate”, as quoted by AFP, whereas the
latter noted that such launches are not at all rare the world over.

“Many other countries across the globe are firing all kinds of
projectiles,” AFP quoted North Korean senior foreign ministry official Jo
Chol Su as saying, who reportedly confirmed that the weapon was indeed a ‘tactical
guided missile’, as per the country’s official KCNA news agency.

A double standard from the UN would lead to “an aggravation” in the
peninsula, he further said on Monday.

The European members of the UNSC, meanwhile, requested to hold an
urgent meeting on Tuesday to review the situation at hand.
