Plane carrying University of Michigan women’s basketball team makes emergency landing

University of Michigan women’s basketball team had to abruptly return back home after losing 78-75 to Baylor in the Sweet 16 at the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.  

However, the team’s aircraft went through an unexpected storm on their journey back to Michigan. Assistant coach Toyelle Wilson took to Twitter and posted that the plane lost considerable altitude, the passengers had to use deployed oxygen masks, and lost cabin pressure.

They were coming back from San Antonio. The incident was confirmed to the Free Press by the Michigan school on Sunday. 

The plane made an emergency landing 430 miles southwest of Ann Arbor, in Evansville, Indiana. The reason behind the emergency landing is not known yet.

In a second tweet, Toyelle informed the team’s followers that they had a safe landing. She wrote, “Just want everyone to know, we are on the ground SAFE. Waiting for the next steps.”

Due to the turbulence and reduced cabin pressure, a few team players suffered from nose bleeds but no further injuries have been reported so far. 

Following a six-hour journey to Michigan, the team tweeted from their official Twitter account that they had landed safely. 

The tweet said, “We have safely arrived back in Michigan.”

Their last match in San Antonio marked the first time the women’s basketball team of Michigan reached the semi-finals.
