Police warn of ‘plot’ to breach US Capitol on March 4, security beefed up in Washington

The United States Capitol Police on Wednesday said they have obtained intelligence about a “possible plot to breach the Capitol” on March 4. The day holds significance for conspiracy-believing supporters of former president Donald Trump, reported news agency AFP. As a result, security has been bolstered in Washington.

“We have obtained intelligence that shows a possible plot to breach the Capitol by an identified militia group on Thursday, March 4,” the US Capitol Police said on Twitter.

“We have already made significant security upgrades to include establishing a physical structure and increasing manpower to ensure the protection of Congress, the public and our police officers,” the police.

On January 6, several Trump supporters had stormed the US Capitol, when Congress was certifying President Joe Biden’s election victory. Four people, including a police officer, had died in the attack.
