Congresswoman Jackie Walorski died in a car crash on Wednesday in her northern Indiana district along with two members of her congressional staff, law enforcement officials said. She was 58. Her aides Emma Thomson and Zachery Potts also died in the car crash.

Walorski, a Republican lawmaker, represented Indiana’s 2nd Congressional district in the House. The counties that came under her jurisdiction were noted to be heavy Republican-leaning. She also won her primary elections on May 3 this year, securing more than 78% of the votes.

Walorski was known to take a right-leaning conservative stance on crucial political matters like gun control, abortion, America’s border policies and the economic crunch.

Gun control: “Banning firearms doesn’t stop violence – it only punishes law-abiding gun owners”, Walorski wrote in a post in late July. She also revealed that her vote in the House was against a legislation that would enhance gun control in the United States.

Inflation: “With interest rates on the rise, it will be harder than ever for Hoosier families to afford homes, cars, and other necessities. As President Biden and Democrats attempt to spend America deeper into inflation, we’re in a dangerous and unsustainable cycle”, Walorski wrote.

Border policies: “As the border crisis continues to worsen, smugglers are taking advantage of the porous border to traffic poison into our communities.” The Republican also introduced a legislation to curb cross-border trafficking.

Abortion: Days after the Roe v. Wade precedent was overturned by the US Supreme Court, Walroski wrote in a post: “Abortion on demand is an affront to pro-life values & our conscience protections. This radical agenda not only encourages – but celebrates – abortion.”

Walorski, who served on the House Ways and Means Committee, was first elected to represent Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District in 2012. She previously served six years in the state’s Legislature.
