The city in northeastern Indiana saw Governor Eric Holcomb sign a bill into law that would allow most adults to carry handguns in public without a permit. The decision drew sharp opposition from state police law enforcement organizations, city police departments, and the Fraternal Order of Police, all of them insisting that the lives of officers would be at greater risk.
Republican state senator Liz Brown also expressed that the previous system was better, and said, “Why I voted against the bill because I didn’t think it served my constituents well. An officer serving a warrant to your house can determine who is in the house and who they are, at least one of the ways is to see if you had a permit because all of those things have been checked”, as per NBC.
