An intruder at the
home of the Peruvian ambassador in Washington DC was shot dead on Wednesday
morning, NBC News reported quoting the police. Two officers of the Secret
Service used tasers on the man who was armed with a metal stake and was smashing
the windows of the house, according to Washington DC police chief Robert Contee.

The Secret Service
tweeted that its officers shot a “reported intruder” at the site following a
confrontation just before 8 a.m. No officers were injured in the incident.

Speaking to reporters, Contee said, “They (Secret Service personnel) encountered this person, they pulled their less-than-lethal service weapons, their Tasers. The officers fired those Tasers, they did not take effect…ultimately the officers pulled their service weapons and this person is now deceased.”

Police said the Peruvian ambassador’s family called the Secret Service upon hearing windows being broken. Neither officers nor family members were hurt, cops said.

Regarding the identity of the intruder, the police chief said, “We don’t know who this individual is. We don’t know why this person was on the ambassador’s residential property, we don’t know why this person smashed out several windows, we don’t know why this person had a double stake, we don’t know why this person approached the officers with that double stake, but we’re investigating that now.”

The intrusion was also confirmed by the Peruvian embassy. ” A person entered the Official Residence without authorisation, causing material damage to the property… The Ambassador, his family, the Residential staff, and the Secret Service agents are safe, and the fact is being investigated by competent authorities,” the embassy said in a statement.

The intruder is reportedly a male in his late 20s or early 30s. After gunshots were fired, multiple emergency vehicles were seen flying down nearby Connecticut Avenue, Daily Mail reported. The number of shots fired during the incident remains unclear.
