United States Vice President Kamala Harris will be visiting the US-Mexico border later this week on Friday, US media reported quoting statements from the White House. Harris will be accompanied by Homeland Security chief Alejandro Mayorkas.

The announcement puts Harris’ trip nearly parallel to former US President Donald Trump‘s trip, who will be visiting the international border along with Republican lawmakers from the US House of Representatives.

Harris will be traveling to the city southern border city of El-Paso in Texas, a prominent point joining the borders of US and Mexico.

The Vice President has been in the crosshairs of Republican lawmakers and political experts for not visiting the US-Mexico border after her first international trip last month

“If Governor Abbott and I weren’t going there next week, she would have never gone”, said Trump in a statement on Wednesday. He also said that the current administration was given the “strongest border” in history, which is now the worst, reported NBC News.

However, multiple other Biden administration officials, including Mayorkas, have already visited the US-Mexico border after taking office.

Harris, who released multiple statements during her trip last month, urged those wishing to cross the border to not come to the United States. She said, “Do not come. Do not come. The United States will continue to enforce our laws and secure our border”, reported NBC News.
