‘Transurrection’ started trending on Twitter on Thursday after the Tennessee Capitol building was stormed by protesters demanding stricter gun control laws. This comes just days after 6 people were killed at the Covenant school in Nashville, Tennessee, including 3 children.

The term, which loosely and potentially incorrectly pointed to the protesters being transgender people. It could have also been sparked by GOP Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeting in a presently deleted post that the postest was a “Transgender day of vengeance”. Taylor Greene also compared the protest to the January 6, 2021 insurrection that unfolded in Washington D.C., at the Capitol Building.

“The trans mob are literally doing exactly what people did on J6 in Tennessee today after a trans murdered children & adults at a school shooting and on the eve of the ‘Trans Day of Vengeance’ in DC. Will there be the same accountability for them as J6’ers?” she wrote.

Here are some of the reactions that followed her tweet that went viral. An increasing number of conservatives branded the protest a “transurrection.”

MTG’s attack on trans people might have come from the fact that the Nashville school shooter was Audrey Hale, a 28-year-old biological woman who identified as a man.

Although the thousands of protesters who gathered at the Capitol were hoping to get the attention of the GOP lawmakers to make them see their point, the only politicians whose attention they seemed to have attracted were Democrats, who already echoed the protesters’ views. Reps. Vincent Dixie, D-Nashville; Gloria Johnson, D-Knoxville; and Torrey Harris, D-Memphis, were seen giving the crowd the signal to continue.
