On Monday, US-based business executives asked the US Congress to certify the victory of President-Elect Joe Biden as the new US President by writing a joint statement, reported AFP.

The letter criticised the efforts to obstruct the certification and was signed by over 170 executives from a multitude of industries ranging from media, finance and sports.

“This presidential election has been decided and it is time for the country to move forward,” read a copy of the letter released by business advocacy group Partnership for New York City, reported AFP.

Under normal circumstances, the certification of the Presidency is just a formality. However, representatives of the Republican party in the Senate and House have said that they will object to the certification.

However, as Speaker Nancy Pelosi has previously said, the vote will not change anything but only cause a minor delay in the certification. Moreover, multiple Republican senators have already acknowledged the victory of President-Elect Joe Biden.

Donald Trump has requested his supporters to gather in Washington on the day of the meeting which is raising concerns of an outbreak of violence.

The executives wrote about the fact that both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have won the Electoral College in a fair manner as the courts have also dismissed the challenges.

The long list of signatories to the letter included Laurence Fink, the chief executives of Goldman Sachs of American Express and Goldman Sachs, Catherine Engelbert and Adam Silver. Moreover, Jonathan Gray, Brad Smith and John Zimmer were on the list.
