US President-elect Joe Biden names all-female White House communications team

US President-elect Joe Biden on Sunday announced an all-female senior White House communications team, as per news agency AFP.

In a move that has been dubbed as historic, Biden’s office termed the all-female appointments as “a first in the country’s history.”

The 78-year-old Biden’s transition team named Jen Psaki as its White House Press Secretary.

Psaki, 41, had served as the White House communication director for the Barack Obama- Joe Biden administration earlier.

The President-elect issued a statement saying, I am proud to announce today the first senior White House communications team comprised entirely of women.”

The 78-year-old former Senator from Delaware, Pennsylvania added, “These qualified, experienced communicators bring diverse perspectives to their work and a shared commitment to building this country back better.”

The Biden-Pelosi administration that will take its oath on January 20, 2021, has repeatedly emphasized the importance of diversity in their appointments and nominations.

Besides Pskai, six other appointments were made public.

The Biden team appointed Kate Bedingfield, who served as Biden’s deputy campaign manager, as White House communications director.

Other appointments included Ashley Etienne for the role of deputy communications director, Karine Jean Pierre as principal deputy press secretary, and Elizabeth Alexander, as communications director for incoming First Lady Jill Biden
