Health authorities in the United States (US) said that they looked into a small number of reports of heart inflammation among young people who received COVID-19 vaccines with no conclusive connections established, reports AFP.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that there were “relatively few reports of myocarditis”, mostly in teenagers and young adults after they received doses of mRNA vaccines such as Moderna and Pfizer, reports AFP.

“Most cases appear to be mild, and follow-up of cases is ongoing,” the CDC said, adding that reports were more often from males who had gotten their second dose. The agency did not publish detailed information such as the number of reports or the ages of those affected, reports AFP.

The United States started a vaccination drive in mid-May for children aged 12-15 against the novel coronavirus. “Within CDC safety monitoring systems, rates of myocarditis reports… following COVID-19 vaccination have not differed from expected baseline rates,” CDC added, reported AFP.
