Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday suggested a substitute approach of stacking up the bill with various other White House priorities, an AP report said.

With the pressure building on the US Government, the hurdles set by the Republican senators appear to be unbeatable. While most Republican senators are against the increase in spending, President Trump and a few other senators want to increase the amount of the checks.

The new bill, which includes the establishment of a body to investigate and study the 2020 US Presidential Elections, does not seem to have enough support to pass.

Some Republicans have also warned that the refusal to pay additional aid as the COVID-19 spread has spiked might negatively impact the Senate elections in Georgia next week, according to AP.

On the other hand, some Republicans say that the $400 million amount was too much as the US Government has already provided sufficient aid. Moreover, they stated that relief aid is not directed towards those who genuinely need it.

The COVID-19 portion of the bill revives a weekly pandemic jobless benefit boost — this time $300, through March 14 — as well as the popular Paycheck Protection Program of grants to businesses to keep workers on payrolls. It extends eviction protections, adding a new rental assistance fund.
