Joe Biden says US won’t lift sanctions to bring Iran to negotiation table on nuclear deal

Refusing to bear any dominance from Iran on nuclear deal, the US
President Joe Biden on Sunday said that the country won’t lift sanctions
against Iran as long as the Islamic republic is not adhering to its nuclear
deal commitments.

In an
interview with CBS, the President offered a clear response on speculations
pertaining to halting of sanction on Iran to get the state talking.

The President’s
statements came after Iran’s supremo Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s comments on
Sunday asking the United States to lift all sanctions if the country wants
Tehran to reverse its nuclear steps.

Iran
in early January announced that it had resumed advanced uranium enrichment,
which is in violation of the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal.

Under
the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, the US agreed to lift economic sanctions on Iran if it limits the nuclear programming of the country.

However, former US President Donald Trump in 2018 pulled
the U.S. out of the deal and reimposed those sanctions.

Tehran in return suspended compliance with most key nuclear commitments to the
deal last year.

The Biden administration however expressed willingness to return to the deal, but refused to bear any dominance from the country and demanded that the Islamic republic first resumes nuclear deal compliance.
