One
year ago, on January 26, Vanessa Bryant lost her husband, NBA legend Kobe
Bryant, and her teenage daughter, Gianna, in a helicopter crash in Calabasas,
California. She shared a treasure on her Instagram feed as she remembered her
husband and daughter.

Aubrey
Callaghan, one of Gianna’s best friends, penned a letter addressing Mrs Bryant,
as she remembered her ‘kind, caring and endlessly polite’ daughter.

Callaghan
shared beautiful memories that she shared with Gianna during school, playing
basketball and in her life.

Vanessa
was in awe of the note she received from ‘Aubz’.

“Today
I received this sweet letter from one of Gianna’s best friends, Aubrey,”
Vanessa began in her caption. “I love you Aubz (as my Gigi would call
you). Thank you so much for beautifully sharing some of your memories of my
Gigi with me and allowing me to share them here on my ig.”

She
continued, “My Gigi is INCREDIBLE and I truly appreciate your thoughtful
letter. She loves you so much. I miss my baby girl and Kob-Kob so much, too. I
will never understand why/how this tragedy could’ve happened to such beautiful,
kind and amazing human beings. It still doesn’t seem real. Kob, we did it
right. Gigi, you still make mommy proud. I love you!”

Gianna
helped them become better versions of themselves. Remembering an anecdote, Callaghan
wrote, “I remember sitting with her at lunch in second grade as she taught us
not to eat while we talked.”

She was
constantly admired by Gianna’s take on life.

“She
attacked each day as though it was hers to conquer,” Callaghan wrote.

In
Gianna, she found a caring friend, who was fierce and knew what she wanted.

“She
was generous with her snacks when I forgot mine. She left me notes in my
notebook that I cherish,” she wrote.

Addressing
Vanessa, she offered to share stories of Gianna as she “was filled to the brim”
with them.

“I hope
that in the midst of your intense sadness, you catch a glimpse of joy in who
the daughter you created and raised was,” Callaghan wrote.

  Concluding
her note, Aubrey told Vanessa that she “did it right” when it came to
raising Gianna.
