When Arthur Bach, played by actor Dudley Moore in the 1981 Hollywood rom-com Arthur, described his job as, “I race cars, play tennis and fondle women, but I have weekends off”, there was one little detail that Tony Blevins might have missed. Arthur was his own boss, but Tony Blevins reports to Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple – or at least he did.

Blevins, a former senior executive at Apple, was at a car show in Pebble Beach, California, with his $500,000 now-out-of-production Mercedez-Benz SLR McLaren when he was approached by Daniel Mac, a social media creator. Daniel was scooping quick responses from expensive car owners on what they did for a living.

When faced with the question in the video, Blevin says: “I have rich cars, play golf and fondle big-breasted women, but I take weekends and major holidays off.”

After the video came out on September 5, an internal Apple investigation was launched which concluded with Blevins leaving the company, according to an Apple announcement.

Blevins is the former Vice President working at Apple for the last 22 years and oversaw the company’s global supply chain. Since the controversy broke, the North Carolina State University alumni said his remarks were “ a mistaken attempt at humour” and apologised to anyone offended by it.

Inside Apple, Blevin is nicknamed “the Blevinator” according to the Wall Street Journal. His rock-solid negotiation skills with Apple’s suppliers have helped the company’s expansion efforts and increased revenues. He was also instrumental in sealing a deal with Globalstar, the satellite company, which allowed the latest Apple iPhone 14 to go sim-card free.

Apple is yet to announce his replacement formally, but reports say that Jeff Williams, senior Vice President of operations, will be overseeing his team in the meantime.
