‘We are not wasting any time’: Joe Biden reverses withdrawal from WHO

US President Joe Biden, on the first day in his office, signed an executive order to reverse the United States’ withdrawal from the World Health Organisation, said White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in her first briefing. The order is one of the 15 executive orders that Biden has signed.

In her briefing, Psaki said, “He signed an executive order, reversing Trump’s decision to withdraw from the World Health Organisation. This will strengthen our efforts in improving global health. Tomorrow, we are not wasting any time, Dr Fauci will participate remotely as the US head of delegation.”

She added, “President Biden also officially appointed a COVID-19 response coordinator, a position we had already previously announced but made it official today to create a unified national response to the pandemic. He reestablished to the national security team responsible for global health, security, and bio-defense.”

In the executive orders, Biden made it mandatory to wear masks on federal property, and another order to ensure racial equality, Psaki said. She added that Biden has also signed an order to bolster environmental protection and strengthen the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci said on Sunday that Biden’s promise of delivering 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine within the first 100 days of his presidency.
