On Saturday, a Dallas woman was fatally shot while helping her daughter get ready for prom, according to both police and her family. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on May 7, the day before Mother’s Day, in the 2100 block of North Masters Drive.

The woman was caught in the crossfire of a shootout between two vehicles, Dallas police reported. The victim’s family identified her as 47-year-old Michelle Booker-Hicks. Her 17-year-old daughter was in the car with her at the time of the shooting but was not injured. The investigation is ongoing and no suspects have been arrested yet.

Moreno was in her vehicle on the 2100 block of North Masters Drive when she was struck by a bullet fired during the crossfire. Three men were also injured and hospitalized in critical condition. Dallas police reported that Moreno was an innocent bystander and described the incident as a tragic case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

According to Moreno’s family, she was driving with her daughter Amy, who is a high school senior, to get her hair done and pick up her prom dress when the shooting occurred. It was supposed to be a special day for Amy, but it ended in tragedy. Moreno’s family described her as a hardworking mother who always put her children first. They are now devastated by her sudden and senseless death.

“All she heard was gunshots, and she said my mom made a signal like she couldn’t breathe, and then she leaned on Amy’s shoulder, and that’s when they crashed, and that’s when Amy said she called the ambulance,” Michelle Rodriguez, the youngest of Moreno’s three children said.

“It hurts, it really does hurt, because we all had such a great bond with my mom, and it hurts that we lost her so early,” Rodriguez continued. “They took her from us. It’s not fair. She had so much potential. She was so outgoing. She was hard-working. She had everything,” she added.
