Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, the vice chair of the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol attack, outlined what the next hearings will focus on.

“Today’s hearing was narrowly focused, and we will move on in the coming days to President Trump’s broader planning for January 6th, including his plan to corrupt the Department of Justice, and his detailed planning, with lawyer John Eastman, to pressure the vice president, state Legislatures, state officials and others to overturn the election,” Cheney said.

Eastman, the lawyer who wrote memos arguing that then-Vice President Mike Pence could overturn the 2020 election, attempted to shield records from the committee. However, he was later ordered by a federal judge to turn over about 170 documents. He also reportedly urged legislators to discredit electors for Biden and promote an alternate slate of electors who sided with Trump.

The committee has been focused on uncovering Trump’s election result lie in an attempt to stop the transfer of power to President Joe Biden.

The third hearing on Wednesday will show how “Trump corruptly planned to replace the Attorney General of the United States so the US Justice Department would spread his false stolen election claims,” Cheney said.

More testimonies are expected to be heard in the upcoming hearings. Two people directly tied to Pence are among those who have received invitations to appear before the committee, according to CNN. Former Pence chief counsel Greg Jacob and former federal Judge J. Michael Luttig have received outreach from the committee about their possible testimony.

Meanwhile, former Pence chief of staff Marc Short is expected to be called to testify. All three men have already been interviewed privately by committee investigators.

However, it remains unclear if they will appear in the third hearing or will they be present at the ones held at later dates.

The third hearing will take place Wednesday at 10 a.m. ET.
