When Prince Georges Plaza first opened in 1959, it was an open-air mall. It went through a number of renovations and was enclosed in the 1970s. It was the opening of a store by Hecht’s on November 2, 1958, which is considered the official inauguration of the mall.
Anchor stores at The Mall at Prince Georges include those of Macy’s, Target, Marshalls, Ross Dress For Less, TJMaxx, and Five Below. In 1965, a 20,000-square-foot area at the mall was leased by Raleigh Haberdasher. However, the location was later closed in 1992.
