White House will not announce Neera Tanden’s replacement nominee this week: Jen Psaki

After Neera Tanden withdrew her nomination to head the budget office in the US, White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Wednesday said that the future nominee would not be announced this week. Tanden withdrew her nomination to lead the Office of Management and Budget after facing intense opposition over her controversial tweets.

When asked what led to Tanden’s withdrawal, Psaki said that she “saw that path to her own confirmation was narrowed and did not look like there was a path forward.”

“I would not expect and you should not expect a future nominee this week.”

Psaki said that the White House will announce the new nominee when they will have one. 

The withdrawal of Tanden’s nomination is the first high-profile of one of President Joe Biden’s nominees. As of now, 11 of the 23 nominees by Biden have been approved by the Senate, most with strong bipartisan. 

Tanden was promised another job in the current US administration. Psaki said that the President has said he will find another place for the Indian-Americans in the administration as he values her “experience.” 

Tanden’s nomination fell in doubt after Democrat Senator Joe Manchin and many moderate Republicans rallied against her last month due to her tweets attacking members of both parties prior to her nomination.

The 50-year-old over the past years has tweeted about a multitude of American politicians, both liberal and conservative, which many consider being personal in nature.
