Harriet Hageman is set to contest the Wyoming primaries that are scheduled to be held on August 16, 2022. She is running for the US House seat to represent Wyoming’s At-Large congressional district. She is a registered Republican.

She is set to go up against other Republican candidates like Liz Cheney, Robyn Belinskey, Anthony Bouchard and Denton Knapp.

Who is Harriet Hageman?

Hageman has lived all her life in Wyoming. In 1986, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wyoming. She then went on to study at the Wyoming College of Law, earning her Juris Doctor degree in 1989.

Since she became a lawyer, Hageman went on to work as clerk for a federal appeals judge and was part of a private practice in Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska

She has also been a vocal critic of Liz Cheney who was outspoken in her condemnation of former president Donald Trump for denying the election and the January 6, 2021 attack on Capitol Hill. As a result, Hageman has been endorsed by Trump for running for the US House seat from Wyoming.

Hageman has run her campaign mostly directed at opposing Liz Cheney’s platform. On her website, Hageman has criticised Cheney, saying that the incumbent has “cast her lot with the Washington D.C. elites and those who use their power to further their own agenda at our expense.” According to Hageman, Cheney doesn’t represent conservatives.

Her opposition of Cheney is likely a result of the GOP’s sudden shift towards more right leaning rhetoric, especially since Trump became president. In fact, Hageman played a central role in Cheney’s campaign for the US House of Representatives.

In addition to being endorsed by Trump, the Republican candidate has also found powerful supporters in Texas senator Ted Cruz, Kentucky senator Rand Paul and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
