James M. Kelly, the alleged shooter who opened fire into a crowd and killed two people at a music festival in Washington state on Saturday, was stationed at a U.S. Army facility in Western Washington, according to law enforcement sources.

He was booked into the Grant County Jail on June 20, 2023 on suspicion of two charges of murder, two counts of assault, and one act of domestic violence assault, according to Grant County Sheriff Joe Kriete’s Facebook post. He was shot at the scene by law enforcement personnel and was being treated at a hospital.
In an area where people were camping for the Beyond Wonderland electronic dance music festival at the Gorge Amphitheatre, shootings resulted in the deaths of two individuals and two injuries.
Seattle residents Brandy Escamilla, 29, and Josilyn Ruiz, 26, were the two fatalities, according to Grant County Coroner Craig Morrison’s report on June 20, 2023. According to Morrison, Escamilla perished from a gunshot wound to the head, while Ruiz perished from a gunshot wound to the torso. Around 8:20 p.m. on June 17. 2023, the sheriff’s office said it received a complaint of a shooting at the camping area at the amphitheater close to the small town of George, which is located 149 miles (240 kilometers) east of Seattle. A few hundred yards away from the music festival, there was a shooting.
According to a statement given to KREM-TV on June 20, 2023 by Joint Base Lewis-McChord Lt. Col. Mike Burns, the command is aware of Kelly’s claims.

Kelly, according to Burns, is a joint fire support specialist stationed at the military installation with the 75th Ranger Regiment. If Kelly has a lawyer to speak on his behalf, that information was not immediately available.
The North Central Washington Special Investigation Unit is looking into the police shooting of Kelly. No one has been identified as the cop or officers who fired at Kelly.
The massacre occurred in the midst of a weekend-long wave of gun violence that left many Americans dead or injured, including at least 60 shooting victims in the Chicago metro area alone.
