Jasmin Devlin is a resident of Norristown, Pennsylvania. The 30-year-old lives there with her two sons of 10 and 6. Her 10-year-old son first discovered the gun in her room and took the bullets out before he played with it. He even pointed the gun at his six-year-old brother.

Investigations later revealed that Devlin ‘straw-purchased’ the firearm. Basically, the gun was bought by one person and then exchanged with another for goods and services other than money. In this particular case, Devlin’s gun was originally purchased by Joseph Rudnistkas who exchanged it with a  drug dealer for marijuana, ecstasy, and cocaine.  Devlin subsequently bought the gun from such illegal sources.

Police Chief Michael Bishop have called the children who reported the case as the ‘heroes’ in this incident. He also added, “This incident is a frightening reminder of the fact that children can and do find unsecured firearms in a home, and they play with them”.
