Kimberly Merle Schrier is an American politician and has been Washington’s representative for the state’s 8th congressional district. She is registered as a Democrat. 

Born on August 23, 1968 in Los Angeles, California, Schrier spent most of her childhood in the city. She attended the University of California, Berkley, graduating with a degree in astrophysics. Schrier then attended the University of California Davis School of Medicine to get her Doctor of Medicine degree and then did her residency at the Stanford University School of Medicine. Her grandparents were Jewish immigrants who had moved to the United States just before the start of World War II. 

Prior to her starting her career in Washington, Schrier worked as a pediatrician for over 20 years, working with children in Puget Sound.

In 2017, she announced that she would be running for Washington’s 8th congressional district seat following the results of the 2016 presidential elections. She ran her campaign based on a promise to expand Medicare and the Affordable Care Act. During the primaries, she went up against Jason Rittereiser, defeating him narrowly before going on to face Republican nominee Dino Rossi. By the end of the election, Schrier beat Rossi, garnering 52% of the votes. 

As a patient with Type 1 Diabetes, Schrier says on her website that is working on expanding the Affordable Care Act to make it easily accessible by creating a public option. She is also the co-chair of the Health Care Task Force for the New Democratic Coalition.

Schrier is a supporter of the Veteran Affairs office and has supported legislation which increased funding to the agency that helps rehabilitate veterans of America’s wars.

The U.S. primaries for ArizonaMichiganOhioKansas, Missouri, and Washington are set to be held on August 2, 2022. The mid-term elections are slated for November 8.
